The Rules
Where people fail. Don't be them.
The engine is simple. Breaking these rules is how you lose money instead of making it.
🚫
Never carry a balance
Interest on even one month can erase an entire bonus. Pay in full every statement. Non-negotiable.
🚫
Don't overspend to hit the target
Only redirect existing expenses. Buying extra things to hit spend destroys your profit margin entirely.
🚫
Respect Chase 5/24
More than 5 new personal cards in 24 months = denied for any Chase card. Business cards don't count.
🚫
Amex lifetime rule
Amex only gives you a signup bonus once per card, for life. Sequence Amex applications carefully.
✓
Exit before the annual fee
Calendar your fee date the day you open the card. Downgrade or cancel at least 30 days before it hits.
✓
Space cards 2–3 months apart
Too many applications in a short window raises fraud flags. Pace yourself and alternate banks.
// FREQUENTLY ASKED
Everything you want to know
about the Card Engine.
Is the Card Engine free to use?+
Yes. The Card Engine is 100% free. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no paywalls. The full 25-card database, all spend coaching, exit tracking, and 12-month macro planning is available at no cost on iOS, Android, and web.
What is credit card churning?+
Credit card churning is the practice of opening new credit cards to earn signup bonuses, meeting the minimum spend requirement using normal expenses, collecting the bonus, and then exiting the card before the annual fee posts — then repeating the process with a new card. The Card Engine tracks every step of this cycle automatically.
Does churning hurt my credit score?+
Opening new cards causes a temporary dip from hard inquiries (usually 5–10 points) and lowers average account age. However, churning also increases your total credit limit, which improves your utilization ratio. Most experienced churners maintain scores well above 740 by spacing applications 2–3 months apart and never carrying balances. The Card Engine helps you pace applications correctly.
How much can I realistically earn from card bonuses?+
Conservative operators running 3 cards per year at $600 avg collect $1,800+. Solid operators running 6–7 cards at $750 avg reach $5,000+. Full operators stacking personal and business cards at 10–12 per year exceed $10,000. The Card Engine shows projected annual take based on your active operations and queued cards.
What is Chase 5/24 and why does it matter?+
Chase 5/24 is Chase's policy of automatically denying card applications if you've opened 5 or more personal credit cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months. Since Chase has some of the most valuable cards for churners, violating 5/24 by accident is a costly mistake. The Card Engine tracks your 5/24 status and sequences Chase applications correctly in your macro plan.
What is the Amex lifetime rule?+
American Express will only pay a signup bonus once per card product per lifetime. If you got the Amex Gold bonus in 2020 and apply again today, you won't receive another bonus. The Card Engine tracks your Amex history and locks out cards you've already collected bonuses on so you never waste an application.
Are credit card signup bonuses taxable?+
Generally, no — the IRS treats most credit card bonuses as rebates on spending, not income, so they are typically not taxable. However, some bonuses awarded without a spend requirement may be taxable. Consult a tax professional for your specific situation. The Card Engine is an operational tool and does not provide tax advice.
What's the difference between cash back, points, and miles?+
Cash back is a direct dollar rebate — simple and always worth its stated value. Points and miles are currencies from bank reward programs (Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, etc.) that can be redeemed for travel, cash, or transferred to airline and hotel partners — often at 1.5–2x their face value. The Card Engine tracks the real value of each bonus based on your preferred redemption method.
How does the 12-month macro plan work?+
The macro plan is built automatically from your active operations and queued cards. It maps every apply date, spend window, bonus payday, and exit date in sequence — accounting for bank rules, spend spacing, and fee dates. It shows your projected total extraction and net profit for the next 12 months. Update your queue and the plan rebuilds instantly.
Who makes the Card Engine?+
